There are many global companies in Mie prefecture. I would like to introduce one of those companies. What are the reasons why they decide to operate in Mie?
Cabot Microelectronics Corporation
Cabot Microelectronics Corporation (CMC) is a US company headquartered in Aurora, Illinois. It is the world leader of CMP (Chemical Mechanical Planarization) slurry used in the polishing step in the semiconductor manufacturing process. CMC also holds the number two position in the supply of polishing pads used in the CMP process. They have research facilities at each of their manufacturing locations in the US, Japan, Taiwan, and Singapore. They believe that there are no major semiconductor manufacturers that they do not serve.
A Message from CMC: Why We Chose to Do Business in Japan
The reason why we chose Mie is that many of our customers, that are Japanese major semiconductor manufacturing companies, are located nearby. Second, the location is superb in terms of logistics because we need to ship large quantities of products, primarily by sea, and good access to ports and major highways is important. In addition, as an advantage over big cities, employee loyalty is greater here, which leads to better retention. Once workers are satisfied with us, they tend to stay with the company for a long time. Finally, the strong support from the Mie prefectural government. The subsidies are, of course, important, but we received substantial support in the early start-up stage when we needed help. Because of the “one-stop services” offer from beginning to end we chose Mie Prefecture.
