A slip of the tongue by Britain’s new Foreign Secretary has been on people’s minds in Asia.

Jeremy Hunt said his wife is Japanese. In fact, she’s Chinese.

Does it matter that he got muddled up? After all, he is a fan of both countries.

But the intense media interest in the issue also reveals some interesting aspects of the Sino-Japanese relationship – and the way Europe sometimes views Asia.
